Made in USA production

Made in the USA · Jackets & outerwear

Jacket and outerwear manufacturers in the USA

Work jackets, bombers, overshirts, coats and fleece jackets from US factories, from 100 pieces per style. Outerwear has more parts than anything else we place, so we choose the factory on construction first: lining, zips, pockets and shell fabric.

Three US hubs

Which hub fits jackets and outerwear

No single hub specialises in outerwear, so we choose by construction: a lined wool coat, a canvas work jacket and a fleece zip-up go to different factories.

Product, fabric, quantity and timing decide the factory first; the hub follows from that. You get the factory’s name and direct contact, and you can visit before you sign off a sample.

Indicative US unit cost

What a US-made jacket costs

A US-made jacket costs more at the factory than an imported one, with no ocean freight, customs or import duty on top. The range is wide because outerwear builds vary so much.

What “full package” means

The factory buys the fabric, cuts, sews and adds standard trims, and quotes one price per piece at its door. Decoration, premium fabric, a complex build and shipping move the number; the cost calculator shows by how much. Linings, insulation, many pockets and heavy hardware move you toward the top of each range; an unlined overshirt sits near the bottom.

Timeline · Outerwear

From brief to delivery in 8–12 weeks

These timings apply to every product we place. For outerwear, trims are the usual swing factor: zips, snaps and linings can take longer than the shell fabric.

  1. Day 1

    Send the brief

Product, quantity, fabric, target cost and date. We reply within 24 hours and quote our fee in writing before any work starts.

  2. 3–5 working days

Tech pack, if you need one

Optional. $79 per style with 2–3 revision rounds. Skip it if your tech pack is ready.

  3. 2–4 weeks

    Sampling

A fit sample with your shell, lining and hardware. Approve fit, pocket placement and trims before bulk.

  4. 4–6 weeks

    Bulk production

Cutting, sewing, pressing and finishing after sample sign-off. We check the label wording before the first bulk run.

  5. 1–5 days

    Ground shipping

Straight from the factory to your door or warehouse in the lower 48. No port, no customs broker, no import duty.

First order: 8–12 weeks from brief to delivery.

Repeat orders skip sampling. Fabric availability is the usual swing factor, so name your fabric early.

FTC labelling · Outerwear

What your jacket label can say

“Made in USA” is a legal claim. For textiles the FTC looks one step back from the finished product, so the wording depends on where the shell fabric was made and where the jacket was cut and sewn.

Outerwear: the shell fabric decides the wording

The label follows where the fabric was made. Imported zips, snaps or insulation matter for any broader “Made in USA” claim in your marketing, which the FTC holds to its all or virtually all standard. We check that wording with you.

Label 01

Shell fabric made in the US

Shell fabric woven by a US mill, then cut and sewn by a US factory. This is the plain “Made in USA” label.

Common mistakeUsing this label on a jacket sewn here from canvas woven overseas. The sewing is local, the fabric is not.

Label 02

Shell fabric made abroad

Cut and sewn here from imported shell fabric. You may name the country instead of “imported”.

Common mistakeWriting “100% Made in USA” in marketing when the shell, zips or insulation are imported. That breaks the FTC standard.

Plain-English summary, not legal advice. Source rules: the FTC’s textile labeling guide and Made in USA standard.

100 pieces per style. Put the size split and colorways in the brief and we only place you with factories that take that quantity.

The cost calculator currently estimates $57.60–$172.80 per piece at 100–300 units and $48.00–$144.00 at 300–500 units, full package, ex-factory, mid fabric and standard complexity. The range is wide because builds vary: your quote depends on the factory, shell, lining, hardware and tech pack.

Yes, if the shell fabric was made in the US and the jacket was cut and sewn here. If the shell fabric was imported, the label must say “Made in USA of imported fabric” (or name the country). We check the label and listing wording before the first bulk run.

Tell us in the brief. Waterproof, seam-taped shells and down-filled jackets need specialist lines, and we say straight away whether we have a factory that fits, rather than guessing.

For a first order, 8–12 weeks from brief to delivery: 2–4 weeks of sampling, 4–6 weeks of bulk production after you approve the sample, then 1–5 days of ground shipping in the lower 48. Order trims early; they are often the longest wait.

Not to send a brief. For outerwear it helps more than for any other product, though: pockets, linings and hardware all change the price. Our tech pack is $79 per style, delivered in 3–5 working days with 2–3 revision rounds.
