7 Tie Manufacturers in the USA

Tie manufacturers in the USA are small workshops, not mass factories, and that is exactly why they suit a brand launch. The United States still has a set of cut-and-sew neckwear studios in Vermont, New York, Colorado, California and South Carolina that make ties to order, often in short runs, and several of them will make ties under your name or in your own designs.

This directory profiles seven US tie makers, each checked on its own website. It keeps them apart by what they will actually do for you, because they are not interchangeable. Some manufacture neckwear in your designs. Some run custom programmes for companies, schools and clubs. Some make custom pieces for groups but not for resale under your label.

Heads up: We're OneAim, a group of documented United States clothing factories. The companies below are independent tie makers listed on public sources, not members of our group. OneAim's role is separate: we place your production with a documented factory in our group built for your product.

Key Takeaways

  • US neckwear is made in small workshops. Every maker below cuts and sews in the United States, mostly in short, made-to-order runs.
  • Two makers state they manufacture for other brands. Beau Ties of Vermont will make neckties in your own designs, and Pocket Square Clothing in Los Angeles runs a private label and contract programme.
  • Published minimums are rare. Knotty Tie says it has no minimums, Josh Bach states custom minimums as low as 100 pieces, and Pocket Square Clothing states figures from 25 to 100 units. All are self-reported.
  • Made in USA usually means sewn in the USA. Several makers buy in their cloth or sew fabric the client supplies, so ask where the cloth comes from if the label claim matters to you.
  • Printed and woven are different products, not finishes. A print sits on the surface of finished cloth. A jacquard is built into the cloth on the loom from dyed yarns.

What does a US tie maker actually do?

It cuts and constructs. A necktie is cut on the bias from silk, wool, cotton or a synthetic, lined or folded around an interlining, then closed along the back with a long slip stitch. Beau Ties of Vermont says each of its ties is cut by hand (Beau Ties of Vermont). Knotty Tie prints its own fabric in-house before sewing (Knotty Tie Co.).

What a US tie maker usually does not do is weave the cloth. Many makers buy finished tie fabric or work with fabric the client supplies; Pocket Square Clothing's contract service, for example, expects the client to supply fabrics, labels and trims. That split matters for your spec: the workshop controls construction, shape, width, length and finish, while the cloth sets the look and much of the cost.

How did we choose these tie manufacturers?

Every company below had to pass three checks on its own website: it states that it makes ties in the United States, it publishes where it works, and it offers custom, private label or made-to-specification work rather than selling only its own finished stock. We left out neckwear brands whose sites offer no custom service, sellers that don't say where their ties are made, and directory listings we couldn't trace to a working company site.

We did not rank one to seven, because these companies do different work. Where a figure is a company's own claim, such as a minimum, a lead time or a founding year, we say so. Seven verified names is what the research produced, and it's a more useful number than a padded ten.

Which US tie manufacturers can actually make ties for your brand?

Beau Ties of Vermont (Middlebury, Vermont, USA)

The most straightforward US option for a brand. Beau Ties makes neckties, bow ties, pocket squares and scarves, "all handcrafted right here in Vermont by our talented staff of sewers" (Beau Ties of Vermont). Its manufacturing page states "We will manufacture your neckties in your own designs" and offers to cut and sew neckwear and accessories to a client's specifications, including custom shapes, widths and sizes, plus an in-stock neckwear programme for brands that don't want to start from scratch (Beau Ties, Manufacturing Your Neckwear). Minimums are not published.

Pocket Square Clothing and Top Hand Manufacturing (Los Angeles, California, USA)

A Los Angeles neckwear and accessories company with a showroom and factory in the city, running a private label programme and a contract manufacturing service where the client supplies specifications, fabrics, labels and trims (Pocket Square Clothing). In 2019 it acquired Top Hand Manufacturing, established in 1969, which it describes as one of the last remaining formal accessories manufacturers in the U.S. The page gives two minimum figures, 100 units for contract manufacturing and as low as 25 per size, style and colour, so confirm which applies to your order.

Josh Bach (New York City, New York, USA)

A New York neckwear label whose site states "I have ALWAYS manufactured locally, in New York City", with silk ties hand-finished in NYC (Josh Bach, About). It runs a custom programme for neckties, bow ties and scarves for companies, clubs, schools and museums, with minimums stated "as low as 100 pieces" and delivery often in 10 to 12 weeks (Josh Bach, Custom). Both figures are self-reported. Best for a branded or organisational tie in silk.

General Knot & Co. (Bedford, New York, USA)

A small accessories label founded in 2010 by Ann and Andrew Payne, making bags and small goods by hand in its Bedford studio; it says its neckwear in particular is made for it by a small group of American partner factories (General Knot & Co., About). Its corporate and custom page offers runs for schools, inns and companies, including custom-fabric runs reserved for one client, "sewn by hand in New York" (General Knot & Co., Corporate & Custom). Minimums are not published. Best for a short, distinctive run in vintage or special fabrics.

Knotty Tie Co. (Denver, Colorado, USA)

Custom-printed neckties, bow ties, scarves and pocket squares, which the company says it builds "ourselves from scratch in Denver, CO", printing custom designs onto recycled fabrics (Knotty Tie Co.). It states no minimums for orders and reorders and says it has built the company to create jobs for resettled refugees. These are company statements. Its ties are printed, not jacquard woven, which suits logos, artwork and photo designs. Best for a launch capsule or an exact-colour logo tie.

The Cordial Churchman (Boiling Springs, South Carolina, USA)

Hand-crafted bow ties, neckties and pocket squares made to order, with the company stating "Our bow ties are made here in Boiling Springs, SC, right after they are ordered" (The Cordial Churchman). It makes custom ties for an individual or a group, and can work with fabric the client sends in (The Cordial Churchman, Custom). Its site does not describe a private label service, so treat it as a short-run custom maker for groups and events, not a volume neckwear factory.

Brackish (Charleston, South Carolina, USA)

A specialist in feather bow ties and accessories, each piece "handcrafted in our Charleston, South Carolina studio" (Brackish). Its corporate gifting programme offers co-branded box engraving, personalised packaging and a one-to-one custom design service for companies (Brackish, Corporate Gifting). It sells its own designs rather than manufacturing under your label, so it fits branded gifts and events, not a private label line.

Tie manufacturing questions

Can I get ties made in the USA?

Yes. Beau Ties of Vermont states it will manufacture neckties in your own designs and cut and sew to your specifications. Pocket Square Clothing in Los Angeles runs private label and contract manufacturing. Josh Bach in New York City and Knotty Tie Co. in Denver run custom programmes for companies and organisations.

What is the minimum order for custom ties in the USA?

It varies, and most makers don't publish one. Knotty Tie states no minimums. Josh Bach states custom minimums as low as 100 pieces. Pocket Square Clothing gives 100 units for contract manufacturing and as low as 25 per size, style and colour elsewhere on the same page. All are self-reported. Beau Ties, General Knot, The Cordial Churchman and Brackish quote per project.

Where does the fabric for US-made ties come from?

Often from outside the workshop, and sometimes from outside the country. The Cordial Churchman can sew fabric the client sends in, and Pocket Square Clothing's contract service expects the client to supply fabrics, labels and trims. If "made in USA" on the label matters to you, ask each maker where the cloth itself was woven or printed.

What's the difference between a printed tie and a woven tie?

A printed tie has its design applied to the surface of already-woven cloth. A woven or jacquard tie has the design built into the cloth on the loom from pre-dyed yarns. Knotty Tie prints its designs, which it says gives exact colours for logos, artwork and photos. A print can't reproduce an openwork structure like grenadine, which is a weave.

Why is a 7-fold tie so expensive?

Because it uses much more silk and much more hand labour. A 7-fold is cut from a single large silk square folded onto itself several times and sewn, rather than assembled from three pieces around an interlining. It typically has no interlining at all, since the folded silk supplies the body itself.

What is a slip stitch and why does it matter?

It's a single loose thread running along the tie's back seam, intentionally left slack. It allows the tie to stretch when knotted and recover when untied. Pull it too tight in production and the tie will twist and stop lying flat. It's one of the quiet construction details worth checking at quality control.
